Five day conference starts at Agra, India on assessment of futuristic UAVs
Five day conference to assess futuristic unmanned aerial vehicles began at Agra on Tuesday. It attempts to initiate India-United States collaboration in defence technologies. The important aspect is the participation by Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

India orders over one hundred SIGMA 95 navigation systems from Sagem Défense Sécurité
New Delhi, India, Feb 22, 2008: The aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) of India has just ordered from Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) more than 100 SIGMA 95N navigation systems. These systems will be used on the Indian Air Force Sukhoi fighters and the Tejas fighters from the Indian LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) program.
Tata’s, Rafael in manufacture and maintenance deal for 5th generation air defence systems news
New Delhi, India, Feb 26, 2008: Israeli armaments major Rafael, is set to sign an agreement with Tata Power for parts manufacture and maintenance of air defence systems (ADS), which the company expects to supply to the Indian Air Force as part of a Rs4,500 crore deal aimed at phasing out decades-old, Russian supplied surface to air missile (SAM) systems.

New Delhi, India, Mar 1, 2008: India is set to carry on its big-ticket defence purchases into the next financial year, with the government allocating for the first time over Rs1 lakh crore for defence. Significantly, over the revised estimates there is an increase of 27.32% in capital outlay and finance minister P Chidambaram has promised more if needed for purchases.
Indian Air Force to be 'transformed' over 10 years: Air Chief
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has initiated a major transformation process, requiring around US$ 70 billion over the next few years.
According to an India Strategic study by these writers, except for the newly acquired SU 30MKIs, IAF needs to replace and augment nearly 100 per cent of its fighter, transport and helicopter fleets for the simple reason that all of them are around 20 years old or more, and would need replacement even after their useful lives are extended by around 10 years or so with new onboard avionics and missiles as the airframes and engines remain the same.
Tata to bid for Indian Army's $1 billion communication project
New Delhi, India, Feb16, 2008: India's Tata Advanced Systems said on Saturday, it planned to form a partnership with an arm of European plane-maker EADS to bid for the Indian Army's $1 billion (509 million pounds) tactical communications system project.

Tatas JV with Israel Aerospace Industries to develop defence products
New Delhi, India, Feb17, 2008: Homegrown business conglomerate Tatas on Sunday inked an MoU with Israel's largest aerospace and defence company Israel Aerospace Industries to establish a joint venture in India for developing and manufacturing a wide range of defence products.
The JV company would be set up by Tata Industries' wholly-owned subsidiary Tata Advanced Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
Raytheon aligns with Precision Electronics Limited to pursue defense communications programmes
